Why is a list of times tables not enough to learn the times tables. In order to answer this question we need to look at how the brain works. The brain has two hemispheres known as the left and the right brain. Both sides of the brain deal with different activities. One of the roles of the left brain is to deal with sequence and lists.

The main functions of the left brain are logic, words, number and sequence (lists). The main functions of the right brain are imagination, daydreaming, colour and space. Although this is a simplified view, by learning times tables with lists, only 2 of the left brain functions (number and lists) are being used.

None of the right brain functions are being used at all. Also when the left and right brain are being together the potential of the brain is greatly enhanced.
